Things to do in and around Newchurch

Just a few minutes walk from Springfields Cottage, at the heart of the village, lies All Saint’s Church and the The Pointer Inn. The Pointer serves real ales and quality food. It is very popular with locals and tourists alike so booking is recommended – we are happy to do this for you if requested.

The Sandown-Cowes cycle-path can be joined in Newchurch and runs alongside the Alverstone Mead Nature Reserve, there are many paths and trails and for bird-watchers a purpose built hide.

Newchurch is home to the Isle of Wight Garlic Farm where you can spend time in its visitor centre and shop or just enjoy a meal in the café.

For golf enthusiasts, Shanklin & Sandown 18 hole golf course is nearby.

The popular beach resorts of Sandown and Shanklin are 10 minutes drive away.

Vectis Astronomical Society has a well equipped observatory in Newchurch and welcomes visitors any Thursday each week from 20.00 hrs onwards.

Other Island attractions

On the outskirts of the Island’s County town of Newport (6 miles) is Carisbrooke Castle where Charles I was incarcerated before his execution. Donkeys can be seen working the castle’s well.

Osborne House and Gardens at East Cowes, holiday home to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, lies across the river from the yachting centre of Cowes which hosts the famous Cowes Week Regatta.
